Top Tips For Your Croatia Yacht Charter

Frequently Asked Questions

PLANNING YOUR CROATIA YACHT CHARTER

What is the best time of year for a luxury yacht charter in Croatia?

The ideal time for a luxury yacht charter in Croatia spans late May to early October, which is considered the sailing season. July and August, the peak season, offer hot, sunny weather and a vibrant social scene, perfect for those seeking energy and events, though mooring fees are at their highest and yacht availability can be limited, so early booking is recommended. For a quieter experience with fewer crowds, slightly cooler temperatures, and the freedom to explore at your own pace with greater flexibility in mooring fees, June and September are excellent alternatives.

What is the weather like in Croatia during the prime charter season?

Croatia enjoys a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and abundant sunshine. From June to August, daytime temperatures typically range from 25 to 35 degrees Celsius, while sea temperatures are perfect for swimming and watersports such as scuba diving. The calm waters of the Adriatic Sea provide smooth sailing, ensuring an exceptional experience for  yachts.

Which airports provide the most convenient access to Croatia?

Several international airports serve Croatia’s yachting hubs. Split Airport facilitates charters departing from Split, Trogir, and nearby islands. Dubrovnik Airport is most convenient for Southern Dalmatia, while Zadar Airport serves central Dalmatian coast departures. Zagreb Airport, located in Croatia’s vibrant capital city, is the main international hub and offers transfers to coastal cities, enhancing Croatia’s accessibility for yacht guests worldwide.

VAT & Charter Costs

What is the applicable VAT or tax rate for a luxury yacht charter in Croatia?

The standard VAT rate on yacht charters in Croatia is 13 per cent, applied to the charter fee. Partial reductions may apply if itineraries include international waters or multiple countries, depending on the embarkation port. Mooring fees are an additional consideration, varying by season, location, and yacht size.

What is the Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) and what does it cover?

The Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is a sum paid in advance to cover charter expenses that are not included in the charter fee. These may include fuel for the yacht, tenders and water sports equipment, food and beverages, berthing dues and harbour charges, local taxes, divers’ fees, customs formalities, waste disposal, water and electricity taken from shore, ships’ agents’ fees (where applicable), personal laundry, communications and internet use, and any special equipment requested by the Charterer. The Captain will provide detailed accounts of expenditure, and any balance will be settled at the end of your Croatia yacht charter.

What is the standard percentage for gratuities in yachting?

Gratuities are not included in the charter fee. It is customary, though always at the Charterer’s discretion, to leave a gratuity in recognition of excellent service. As a guideline, a gratuity in the region of 10 to 15 per cent of the contracted gross Charter Fee is considered appropriate.
