Top Tips For Your Balearics Yacht Charter

Frequently Asked Questions

PLANNING YOUR BALEARICS YACHT CHARTER

What is the best time of year for a luxury yacht charter in the Balearics?

The prime season for a yacht charter in the Balearic Islands is from June to early October, during the summer months, when you can expect warm weather, calm seas, vibrant nightlife, and a lively social calendar. July and August are considered the peak season for a Balearics yacht charter, perfect for those who enjoy a high-energy atmosphere. For a more relaxed experience, May, June, September and early October offer beautiful conditions with fewer crowds and slightly cooler temperatures.

The Balearics also offer attractions and mild weather year round, making them a popular destination for a Balearics yacht charter outside the main season as well.

What is the weather like in Balearics during the prime charter season?

During the peak months, the Mediterranean sun brings daytime temperatures ranging from 26°C to 32°C (79–90°F), with water temperatures around 24°C to 27°C — ideal for swimming during your Balearics yacht charter. Rainfall is minimal, and the prevailing sea breezes, combined with the pleasant Mediterranean climate, keep yachts comfortable both underway and at anchor. September remains warm, with sea temperatures still high and a calmer pace onshore – a perfect weather for a peaceful Balearics yacht charter.

Which airports provide the most convenient access to the Balearics premier yacht charter destinations?

If you are looking to charter a superyacht in the Balearic Islands, Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI) is the main international gateway for Mallorca and the Balearic islands, with numerous daily flights from across Europe and private jet facilities. Ibiza Airport (IBZ) services Ibiza and Formentera, with Ibiza Town serving as a notable starting point for a yacht charter in the Balearics thanks to its vibrant nightlife and cultural attractions. Menorca (MAH) has its own airport for those starting or ending their trip in Mahón or Ciutadella. Many Balearics yacht charter trips begin in Palma or Ibiza, providing easy access to explore the unique islands of the Balearics.

VAT & Charter Costs

What is the applicable VAT rate for a luxury yacht charter in the Balearics?

Spain applies a standard 21% VAT rate on yacht charters that operate within Spanish territorial waters. This applies whether you charter in Mallorca, Ibiza, Formentera or Menorca. The VAT is calculated on the charter fee and is payable in advance as part of your booking for a yacht charter in the Balearics Islands.

What is the Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) and what does it cover?

The Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is a sum paid in advance to cover charter expenses that are not included in the charter fee. These may include fuel for the yacht, tenders and water sports equipment, food and beverages, berthing dues and harbour charges, local taxes, divers’ fees, customs formalities, waste disposal, water and electricity taken from shore, ships’ agents’ fees (where applicable), personal laundry, communications and internet use, and any special equipment requested by the Charterer. The Captain will provide detailed accounts of expenditure, and any balance will be settled at the end of your Balearics yacht charter.

What is the standard percentage for gratuities in yachting?

Gratuities are not included in the charter fee. It is customary, though always at the Charterer’s discretion, to leave a gratuity in recognition of excellent service. As a guideline, a gratuity in the region of 10 to 15 per cent of the contracted gross Charter Fee is considered appropriate.
