Frequently Asked Questions

PLANNING YOUR LIGURIAN COAST YACHT CHARTER

What is the best time of year for a luxury yacht charter in the Ligurian Coast?

The ideal time to charter a yacht in the Ligurian Coast is between May and September. The region is known for its mild climate, which enhances the appeal of chartering a yacht during these months. During this period, you can expect warm, sunny weather and calm seas, making it perfect for cruising. July and August are the busiest months, especially around Portofino and Cinque Terre, while May, June, and September offer a more peaceful atmosphere with equally beautiful conditions.

What is the weather like in the Ligurian Coast during the prime charter season?

The Ligurian Coast enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate with long, sunny days and very little rainfall in the summer. Temperatures typically range from 24°C to 30°C during the high season, with gentle sea breezes and calm seas. The Ligurian Sea plays a key role in shaping the region’s climate and provides excellent sailing conditions throughout the charter season. The shoulder months of May and September tend to be slightly cooler but still very pleasant for a yacht charter in the Ligurian Coast.

Which airports provide the most convenient access to the Ligurian Coast premier yacht charter destinations?

Ligurian Coast yacht charter guests can access the Ligurian Coast easily via Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport, which is centrally located and serves most of the region. Pisa International Airport is another convenient option, especially for those beginning their journey near the southern parts of Liguria. Nice Côte d’Azur Airport in France also offers access for guests embarking near the western stretch of the coast, particularly around Sanremo.

VAT & Charter Costs

What is the applicable VAT rate for a luxury yacht charter in the Ligurian Coast?

For yacht charters starting in Italy, including the Ligurian Coast, the standard VAT rate is 22%. Phoenix Charter Brokers will guide you through the most tax-efficient options when planning your charter.

What is the Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) and what does it cover?

The Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is a sum paid in advance to cover charter expenses that are not included in the charter fee. These may include fuel for the yacht, tenders and water sports equipment, food and beverages, berthing dues and harbour charges, local taxes, divers’ fees, customs formalities, waste disposal, water and electricity taken from shore, ships’ agents’ fees (where applicable), personal laundry, communications and internet use, and any special equipment requested by the Charterer. The Captain will provide detailed accounts of expenditure, and any balance will be settled at the end of your Ligurian Coast yacht charter.

What is the standard percentage for gratuities in yachting?

Gratuities are not included in the charter fee. It is customary, though always at the Charterer’s discretion, to leave a gratuity in recognition of excellent service. As a guideline, a gratuity in the region of 10 to 15 per cent of the contracted gross Charter Fee is considered appropriate.
