A Thailand yacht charter unfolds across Phang Nga Bay’s limestones, Krabi’s anchorages, and the Similan’s exceptional dive sites.

While Bangkok has been the country’s capital for more than 200 years, the ancient 14th-century city of Ayutthaya was once the thriving seat of monarchy and business. Sacked by the Burmese in 1767, a slow meander through the remains of grand temples and stupas, offers an immersive reimagining of its former glories. In the far north, the borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos converge to form the Golden Triangle. A cultural and culinary hotspot, head to charming Chiang Rai to visit the filigreed fairytale White Temple and discover the old city with its cool art and architecture scene.

The Land of Smiles is also a land of contrasts. Hungry for something sweet, sour, salty and spicy? From north to south, Thai food is deliciously diverse. Start at the top of the country with a zesty bowl of khao soi, coconut curry noodle soup; divert east to the birthplace of sticky rice and signature Isan dishes like a fiery larb salad; then wend your way to southern shores for fresh seafood.

Fuel your appetite with some outdoor exploration in Khao Sok National Park with a hike or elephant trek under the canopy of the world’s oldest evergreen rainforest in the shadow of looming limestone mountains and set to a soundtrack of gushing waterfalls and birdsong. Greenery gives way to the sugary white sands of Railay Beach on Krabi island for some supine downtime or cruise to tip of the Similan and Surin islands to access some of the world’s best diving sites. Swim with whale sharks off Richelieu Rock, which was first discovered by legendary underwater explorer Jacques Cousteau, or descend to the depths off Koh Bon to marvel at manta rays.

Frequently Asked Questions

PLANNING YOUR THAILAND YACHT CHARTER

What is the best time of year for a luxury yacht charter in the Thailand?

The prime period for a luxury yacht charter in Thailand generally spans from November to April. During these months, the weather is drier, the seas are calm, and temperatures are comfortably warm, making it ideal for cruising the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. The high season typically peaks between December and February, offering the most stable conditions and vibrant atmosphere.

What is the weather like in Thailand during the prime charter season?

Between December and March, temperatures in the Bahamas typically hover in the mid-20s Celsius, with sea temperatures around 24°C — ideal for a yacht charter. The skies are mostly clear, with excellent visibility. Summers bring hotter, more humid conditions with occasional showers and stronger winds as hurricane season approaches. During the high season, Thailand enjoys sunny skies with minimal rainfall, gentle sea breezes, and average temperatures ranging from 25 to 30 degrees Celsius. The calm waters are perfect for smooth sailing, water sports, and island-hopping excursions. Evenings are generally mild, creating an inviting environment for al fresco dining and sunset cruises. The late afternoon is perfect for enjoying scenic views, relaxing on deck or partaking in beach side activities.

Which airports provide the most convenient access to Thailand yacht charters?

Phuket International Airport is one of Thailand’s major international gateways and the principal entry point for yacht charters in the Andaman Sea, including destinations such as Phi Phi Islands, Phang Nga Bay, and Similan Islands.

For charters in the Gulf of Thailand, including Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, and Koh Tao, Samui International Airport offers direct access. Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport is also a key hub, particularly for guests combining city stays with charter departures from Pattaya or further south.

VAT & Charter Costs

What is the applicable VAT or tax rate for a luxury yacht charter in Thailand?

The standard Value Added Tax rate in Thailand is seven per cent. For luxury yacht charters, this is typically included in the overall charter fee, though private arrangements or specific vessels may be subject to additional local levies or port fees.

What is the Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) and what does it cover?

The Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is a sum paid in advance to cover charter expenses that are not included in the charter fee. These may include fuel for the yacht, tenders and water sports equipment, food and beverages, berthing dues and harbour charges, local taxes, divers’ fees, customs formalities, waste disposal, water and electricity taken from shore, ships’ agents’ fees (where applicable), personal laundry, communications and internet use, and any special equipment requested by the Charterer. The Captain will provide detailed accounts of expenditure, and any balance will be settled at the end of your Thailand yacht charter.

What is the standard percentage for gratuities in yachting?

Gratuities are not included in the charter fee. It is customary, though always at the Charterer’s discretion, to leave a gratuity in recognition of excellent service. As a guideline, a gratuity in the region of 10 to 15 per cent of the contracted gross Charter Fee is considered appropriate.
