“Charter a yacht in Fiji for Kadavu dives, Yasawa caves, Nanuya manta encounters, and lovo feasts.”

A 500-year-old coral formation that resembles an underwater garden, the Cabbage Patch dive site on Kadavu Island is well worth the visit but watch out for the cheeky ghost pipefish that love to unexpectedly pop out to surprise visitors. For fans of the original Blue Lagoon movie, the Sawa-i-Lau Caves were the location for the infamous film and still hold sway as one of Fiji’s most captivating sites with a brace of turquoise water filled caverns that offer the opportunity for a cooling dip. Local legend has it that a giant hawk once carried off a princess from a nearby village, and her grieving prince called on the sea winds to track the hawk and avenge her death.

Create your own love story over dinner at Yasawa Island Resort & Spa where al fresco dining overlooking a world-renowned beach and out to the ocean provides ample sustenance and inspiration. Lovers of spice can enjoy an authentically fragrant Fijian curry, and much more. Or, immerse yourself in local gastronomy with a traditional lovo and meke evening at Otto & Fanny’s on Tavewa Island. Here you can join in the fun of cooking in a communal underground fire pit (lovo) and watching the mesmerising storytelling dance (meke) performed by both men and women.

Secluded bays and gigantic manta rays make the teeny tiny island of Nanuya Balayu the perfect spot to drop anchor with no less than 40 dive sites thronging this jewel in the Yasawa island chain crown. These spellbinding sea creatures, which can span up to seven metres wide glide effortlessly through the water and to swim with them in their natural habitat is a truly awe-inspiring lifetime experience.

Top Tips For Your Fiji Yacht Charter

Frequently Asked Questions

PLANNING YOUR FIJI YACHT CHARTER

What is the best time of year for a luxury yacht charter in Fiji?

The most desirable time to enjoy a luxury yacht charter in Fiji is from May to October. These months bring drier and cooler conditions, calm seas, and excellent visibility underwater. This period is particularly well suited for island-hopping, snorkelling, diving, and all manner of outdoor activities. July and August are especially popular, as the weather is at its most stable and comfortable, making Fiji a top destination for yacht charters during this period. Compared to other top destinations in the South Pacific, such as French Polynesia, both Fiji and French Polynesia are renowned for unforgettable yacht charter experiences. For travelers considering multiple South Pacific destinations, a French Polynesia yacht charter is another luxurious option in the region.

What is the weather like in Fiji during the prime charter season?

Fiji benefits from a tropical climate throughout the year, but during the prime season from May to October the weather is at its finest. Daytime temperatures average between 24 and 28 degrees Celsius, humidity is lower, and rainfall is minimal. The prevailing trade winds provide gentle breezes that make for smooth passages and enhance the clarity of the sea for water-based pursuits. These ideal sailing conditions are similar to those found in other South Pacific destinations, including French Polynesia.

Which airports provide the most convenient access to Fiji's premier yacht charter destinations?

Most guests arrive through Nadi International Airport on the island of Viti Levu, which handles direct flights from major international hubs including Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Sydney, and Auckland. Nadi also provides VIP and private aviation facilities for those travelling by jet. From there, transfers to yachts are easily arranged by helicopter, seaplane, or a short domestic connection. Nausori Airport near Suva offers an additional option, particularly convenient for private flights and regional travel. Fiji and French Polynesia are both easily accessible gateways for travellers looking to set sail on a luxury yacht charter in the South Pacific.

VAT & Charter Costs

What is the applicable VAT rate for a luxury yacht charter in Fiji?

Fiji applies a value-added tax of 15 per cent to yacht charters. Depending on the route and embarkation arrangements, there may also be government levies or environmental fees, all of which will be outlined in advance by your charter broker for complete transparency.

What is the Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) and what does it cover?

The Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is a sum paid in advance to cover charter expenses that are not included in the charter fee. These may include fuel for the yacht, tenders and water sports equipment, food and beverages, berthing dues and harbour charges, local taxes, divers’ fees, customs formalities, waste disposal, water and electricity taken from shore, ships’ agents’ fees (where applicable), personal laundry, communications and internet use, and any special equipment requested by the Charterer. The Captain will provide detailed accounts of expenditure, and any balance will be settled at the end of your Fiji yacht charter.

What is the standard percentage for gratuities in yachting?

Gratuities are not included in the charter fee. It is customary, though always at the Charterer’s discretion, to leave a gratuity in recognition of excellent service. As a guideline, a gratuity in the region of 10 to 15 per cent of the contracted gross Charter Fee is considered appropriate.

Destinations & Experiences in Fiji

What are the most exclusive yacht charter destinations in Fiji?

Fiji offers a number of exceptional destinations for luxury yacht charters. The Mamanuca Islands are renowned for their serene lagoons and pristine beaches, featuring beautiful bays, breathtaking lagoons, and white sand beaches that make these areas so appealing. The Yasawa Islands provide dramatic volcanic landscapes and secluded anchorages, also boasting stunning white sand beaches and beautiful bays. Taveuni, often referred to as the Garden Island, combines lush rainforests with spectacular diving opportunities, where vibrant coral reefs and spectacular marine life await, offering unforgettable experiences for divers and snorkellers. For the most private and untouched experience, the Lau Group remains one of the most secluded corners of the archipelago, and Beqa Lagoon is particularly prized for its extraordinary marine life, vibrant coral reefs, and unforgettable experiences for those seeking world-class diving. Viti Levu, the main island, serves as a gateway to these remarkable destinations and offers developed facilities and iconic landscapes.

Which iconic attractions should I explore during my Fiji yacht charter?

Highlights of a Fiji yacht charter include diving or snorkelling along the Great Astrolabe Reef, one of the largest barrier reefs in the world. The crystal clear waters and turquoise waters here enhance the scuba diving and snorkelling experiences, making it a paradise for underwater exploration. A hike to the Bouma Falls on Taveuni offers a glimpse of the island’s natural splendour, while visits to traditional villages provide opportunities to experience authentic island life and enjoy fresh fish as part of traditional Fijian cuisine through ceremonies such as kava. Other iconic experiences include swimming in the Sawa-i-Lau caves, known for their natural beauty and folklore, and, for surfers, tackling the legendary waves at Cloudbreak.

What bespoke experiences and activities can I enjoy while cruising in Fiji?

Luxury yacht charters in Fiji allow for entirely personalised experiences. Guests may enjoy private beach dining on uninhabited islands, curated diving expeditions guided by marine experts, or aerial tours by helicopter across volcanic landscapes and coral reefs, where breathtaking scenery and azure waters add to the appeal. Deep-sea fishing, on-board wellness programmes with yoga and spa treatments, and private cultural performances can all be arranged to ensure a journey tailored to personal preferences.

Where are the best restaurants and culinary experiences along Fiji?

Fiji is home to several outstanding dining destinations. Tokoriki Island Resort is highly regarded for its refined menus and sweeping ocean views, while Likuliku Lagoon Resort has become synonymous with contemporary Pacific cuisine. Nanuku Auberge Resort offers bespoke dining experiences including chef’s tables and private beach settings. Six Senses Fiji has developed a strong reputation for its organic, farm-to-table approach, and the private island of Laucala presents multiple fine dining options in unique settings from overwater pavilions to plantation-style venues. On board, the yacht’s chef will prepare menus crafted entirely around guest preferences, often rivaling the finest Michelin-starred establishments. Many local dishes feature fresh fish, allowing guests to enjoy authentic flavours while dining with views of beautiful bays and crystal clear waters.
