Top Tips For Your Yacht Charter in Turkey

Frequently Asked Questions

PLANNING YOUR TURKEY YACHT CHARTER

What is the best time of year for a luxury yacht charter in Turkey?

The prime season to charter a yacht in Turkey runs from May to October, with the summer months, especially June to September, considered the high season due to warm weather, vibrant activity, and ideal sailing conditions. June and September offer refined tranquillity away from peak crowds for a Turkey yacht charter. The low season for chartering a yacht in Turkey, such as April and November, provides more affordable options and quieter anchorages. July and August promise sun-drenched days and vibrant coastal life, making summer the most popular time for yachting holidays. Turkey benefits from a longer season for yacht charters, with ideal sailing conditions extending from early May to late October.

What is the weather like in Turkey during the prime charter season?

During your yacht charter in Turkey, expect long, radiant days thanks to the Mediterranean climate, gentle coastal breezes, and calm seas. The inviting sea, with its calm waters, is a key part of the region’s appeal, making it ideal for swimming, diving, and bespoke watersports. Typical afternoon breezes provide refreshing relief from the midday sun and enhance sailing conditions as the day progresses.

Throughout the Turkey yacht charter season, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the coastline and sea. Temperatures hover between 28°C and 34°C, with warm, inviting waters ideal for swimming, diving, and bespoke watersports.

Which airports provide the most convenient access to Turkey?

The principal points of arrival for yacht charters along the Turkish Riviera are Bodrum, Dalaman and Antalya. Each airport accommodates private aviation and offers streamlined arrival procedures, making ground transfers to nearby marinas efficient and discreet. Bodrum is ideal for itineraries that include Yalıkavak, Göltürkbükü and the surrounding bays. Dalaman provides direct access to Göcek and Fethiye, both known for quiet anchorages and protected gulfs. Antalya serves the southern coastline, including Kaş and Kalkan, where the landscape becomes more dramatic.

Istanbul functions as the primary international entry point, receiving a larger number of long-haul flights. From there, Turkey yacht charter guests often continue by private jet or helicopter to the coast, ensuring a smooth transition from arrival to embarkation.

VAT & Charter Costs

What is the applicable VAT or tax rate for a luxury yacht charter in Turkey?

Charters commencing in Turkey are generally subject to 18 per cent VAT. Tailored structuring and itineraries can, in some cases, reduce or exempt this, ensuring maximum discretion and efficiency.

What is the Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) and what does it cover?

The Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is a sum paid in advance to cover charter expenses that are not included in the charter fee. These may include fuel for the yacht, tenders and water sports equipment, food and beverages, berthing dues and harbour charges, local taxes, divers’ fees, customs formalities, waste disposal, water and electricity taken from shore, ships’ agents’ fees (where applicable), personal laundry, communications and internet use, and any special equipment requested by the Charterer. The Captain will provide detailed accounts of expenditure, and any balance will be settled at the end of your Turkey yacht charter.

What is the standard percentage for gratuities in yachting?

Gratuities are not included in the charter fee. It is customary, though always at the Charterer’s discretion, to leave a gratuity in recognition of excellent service. As a guideline, a gratuity in the region of 10 to 15 per cent of the contracted gross Charter Fee is considered appropriate.

What are the most exclusive yacht charter destinations around Turkey?

The allure of secret coves, accessible only by yacht, adds to the exclusive charm of this remarkable coastline.
