“Charter a yacht in Vietnam to cruise Ha Long Bay’s limestone seascapes, with fresh seafood, Da Nang’s landmarks, and ancient Mỹ Sơn.”

From ancient dynasties to colonial influences, Vietnam’s complex history, rich culture and fascinating landscapes offer infinite yacht charter itineraries. The central Vietnamese city of Da Nang is a good spot to drop anchor and explore French colonial architecture and centuries-old pagodas, but its Golden Bridge is the area’s most Instagramable attraction. Found high in the Ba Na hills, the 150-metre-long curving gold structure sits in the safe grip of two giant moss-embellished hands and really is a sight to behold. Step way further back in time with a visit to Mỹ Sơn where a cluster of Hindu temple ruins are believed to be the longest inhabited archaeological site in Indochina.

Characterised by fresh, healthy ingredients, Vietnamese cuisine has unique appeal. A bowl of classic pho or a bahn mi sandwich may be your first thought but the variety of regional dishes is mind-blowing. Up north in Halong Bay, fresh seafood is a must-try from cha muc squid cakes to the infamous horseshoe crab that your private chef will be more than happy to prepare. One of the world’s biggest coffee exporters, don’t leave without sampling Vietnam’s iconic iced coffee or visiting the Buon Ma Thuot plantations in the Central Highlands.

Switch to adventure mode with a paddle or boat trip through the world’s largest cave and subterranean river in Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng national park. Hewn from the limestone rock of a Vietnamese mountain, the cave, which is decorated with unusual rock formations and was even used as a staging post during the Vietnam War. Also in the north is another natural gem: the Ban Gioc Waterfalls, which straddle the country’s border with China.

Top Tips For Your Vietnam Yacht Charter

Frequently Asked Questions

PLANNING YOUR VIETNAM YACHT CHARTER

What is the best time of year for a luxury yacht charter in Vietnam?

The ideal time for a yacht charter in Vietnam is from December to April, when the coastline enjoys calm seas, warm temperatures and minimal rainfall. During these months, conditions are particularly favourable along the south and central coasts, including Nha Trang, Cam Ranh Bay, Con Dao and Phu Quoc. The summer months can bring more humidity and occasional showers, but itineraries can be adjusted to focus on sheltered bays and island anchorages where conditions remain comfortable.

What is the weather like in Vietnam during the prime charter season?

During the peak yacht charter season, the weather is warm and consistent, with daytime temperatures typically ranging from 26°C to 32°C. The sea state is generally calm, particularly around the island archipelagos off the south coast, and visibility for snorkelling and diving is clear. Light sea breezes are common in the afternoon, keeping conditions pleasant for time spent on deck or at anchor.

Which airports provide the most convenient access to Vietnam's premier yacht charter destinations?

Most international yacht charter guests arrive through Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City or Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi. For charters beginning on the central and southern coasts, Cam Ranh International Airport provides direct access to Nha Trang and the surrounding bays, while Phu Quoc International Airport offers swift entry to the island’s west coast lagoons and private resorts. Helicopter and seaplane transfers can be arranged for direct travel to marina locations, private islands or the yacht at anchor.

VAT & Charter Costs

What is the applicable VAT rate for a luxury yacht charter in Vietnam?

Vietnam does not apply a consistent charter tax structure in the same form as the Mediterranean. The final cost depends on the yacht’s registration, the embarkation location and how much of the itinerary takes place in territorial waters. These details are confirmed during the booking process to ensure full clarity and regulatory compliance, allowing the most favourable arrangement to be organised in advance.

What is the Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) and what does it cover?

The Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is a sum paid in advance to cover charter expenses that are not included in the charter fee. These may include fuel for the yacht, tenders and water sports equipment, food and beverages, berthing dues and harbour charges, local taxes, divers’ fees, customs formalities, waste disposal, water and electricity taken from shore, ships’ agents’ fees (where applicable), personal laundry, communications and internet use, and any special equipment requested by the Charterer. The Captain will provide detailed accounts of expenditure, and any balance will be settled at the end of your Vietnam yacht charter.

What is the standard percentage for gratuities in yachting?

Gratuities are not included in the charter fee. It is customary, though always at the Charterer’s discretion, to leave a gratuity in recognition of excellent service. As a guideline, a gratuity in the region of 10 to 15 per cent of the contracted gross Charter Fee is considered appropriate.

Destinations & Experiences in Vietnam

What are the most exclusive yacht charter destinations in Vietnam?

The coastline around Nha Trang and Cam Ranh Bay offers sheltered waters, and private beaches, ideal for a yacht charter. Con Dao provides a sense of isolation and quiet luxury, with clear seas and protected marine environments. Phu Quoc has calm anchorages and a relaxed atmosphere, with stretches of coastline that feel largely untouched. Further north, the limestone formations of Lan Ha Bay and the quieter inlets surrounding Ha Long Bay offer striking scenery best experienced from the privacy of a yacht, with early mornings and late afternoons providing exceptional light and stillness.

Which iconic attractions should I explore during my Vietnam yacht charter?

A yacht charter itinerary may include visits to remote island beaches, private walks through coastal national parks and guided exploration of local fishing villages. Lan Ha Bay and Ha Long Bay offer a landscape of mountains rising directly from the water, best seen from the tender or kayak. Inland, curated excursions to Hanoi’s historic quarter or the ancient town of Hoi An can be arranged, with private guides ensuring a measured and unhurried experience.

What bespoke experiences and activities can I enjoy while cruising in Vietnam?

Yacht charter guests may snorkel or dive in coral-rich shallows, enjoy quiet hours paddleboarding along protected coves, or take part in on-board wellness programmes influenced by Vietnamese spa and herbal traditions. Private beach dinners can be arranged on uninhabited islands, and cooking sessions with local chefs allow guests to understand regional flavours in a relaxed manner. For those interested in inland culture, helicopter or chauffeured transfers can be integrated seamlessly into a coastal itinerary.

Where are the best restaurants and culinary experiences along Vietnam?

Vietnamese cuisine celebrates freshness, balance, and aromatic nuance, and a yacht charter is an ideal way to enjoy it at its source, moving between regions as your itinerary evolves. For fine dining, the restaurant at Amanoi near Vinh Hy Bay offers an exceptional setting with refined Vietnamese dishes and contemporary takes on coastal ingredients. The Dining Room at Six Senses Con Dao serves thoughtful tasting menus built around seasonal produce and seafood landed by local fishermen. On Phu Quoc, Tempus Fugit delivers polished plates in a calm waterfront setting, well suited to an easy evening after a day on the water.
