“Charter a yacht in the Philippines and enjoy snorkelling, paddleboarding, and unspoilt island backdrops all day long.”

Considered by Filipinos as the eighth natural wonder of the world, Luzon island is home to the 2,000-year-old Banaue rice terraces, believed to be hand carved out of the Ifuago mountains. The quintessential island-hopping destination, Hundred Islands National Park in the Lingayen Gulf is a snorkelling paradise or, for more remote relaxation, drop anchor off the idyllic Batanes Islands where cooling winds and pristine white sands make this a yachting favourite. Back in the capital, Manila Ocean Park offers calming aquatic respite from the city’s hustle and bustle across 8,000 square metres of oceanarium.

Cool off with a guided boat tour through the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River. Part of a national park, this extensive cave system takes adventurers deep into the heart of the mountains and out to sea. Thrills of another kind are found atop Bicol’s Mount Mayon, an active volcano known for its conical symmetry and looming presence over Legazpi City.

Good food is found on every street corner and at the tables of a growing community of world-class restaurants. With Spanish, Chinese and American culinary influences, Filipino cuisine is deliciously eclectic. For upscale dining, Manila is the place to visit. Named the country’s best restaurant in 2023, Toyo Eatery offers a playful and innovative take on Filipino cuisine under the helm of Chef Jordy Navarra, who trained with the UK’s Heston Blumenthal. Balai Palm in trendy Makati is another hotspot for inventive tasting menus. Bohol bound diners should venture to Bohol Bee Farm’s eco-resort restaurant for a unique take on local flavours including the signature cassava taco and malunggay ice cream.

Top Tips For Your Philippines Yacht Charter

Frequently Asked Questions

PLANNING YOUR PHILIPPINES YACHT CHARTER

What is the best time of year for a luxury yacht charter in the Philippines?

The most favourable season to charter in the Philippines typically extends from November to May. December marks the beginning of the dry and festive season, ideal for tourism and cultural events. During this period, the climate is settled, the seas are generally smooth, and the days are warm without excessive humidity. January is especially vibrant due to the Sinulog Festival, a major cultural event in Cebu. February is known for cooler temperatures and is a popular time for outdoor activities. These months provide the most comfortable conditions for cruising and spending time outdoors, whether exploring lagoons, relaxing at anchor, or enjoying water activities.

June marks the start of the rainy season, with increased rainfall and occasional travel disruptions. The summer months, from June to November, bring warmer temperatures and occasional rain, which travelers should consider when planning their yacht charter. July and October are considered the low season, with quieter beaches and discounted rates.

What is the weather like in the Philippines during the prime charter season?

From late autumn through spring, temperatures usually range between 25°C and 32°C, accompanied by long hours of sunshine and light breezes. Rainfall is limited, visibility at sea is often excellent, and the region is renowned for its crystal clear waters, making it ideal for underwater exploration. This is an ideal climate for snorkelling, diving, and extended time on deck. The Philippines is also home to some of the best beaches in the world, attracting travelers seeking pristine sands and vibrant marine life.

Which airports provide the most convenient access to Philippine's premier yacht charter destinations?

Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila is the principal international entry point and handles both commercial and private aviation. Direct and one-stop flights are available from Taiwan, Malaysia, and Japan, making Cebu accessible to travellers from across Asia and the world. Cebu’s international airport serves as a gateway for visitors from around the world, facilitating seamless travel to the region. Travellers heading towards Palawan often continue via Busuanga Airport for Coron, or Puerto Princesa International Airport for the southern part of the island. El Nido Lio Airport provides direct access to the northern bays and island resorts. Mactan-Cebu International Airport is well positioned for journeys into the Visayas, including Bohol and nearby islands.

VAT & Charter Costs

What is the applicable VAT rate for a luxury yacht charter in the Philippines?

The current rate of Value Added Tax for charter arrangements in the Philippines is 12 per cent. Advance planning helps ensure clarity, and charters are usually arranged with full cost transparency before embarkation.

What is the Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) and what does it cover?

The Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is a sum paid in advance to cover charter expenses that are not included in the charter fee. These may include fuel for the yacht, tenders and water sports equipment, food and beverages, berthing dues and harbour charges, local taxes, divers’ fees, customs formalities, waste disposal, water and electricity taken from shore, ships’ agents’ fees (where applicable), personal laundry, communications and internet use, and any special equipment requested by the Charterer. The Captain will provide detailed accounts of expenditure, and any balance will be settled at the end of your Philippines yacht charter.

What is the standard percentage for gratuities in yachting?

Gratuities are not included in the charter fee. It is customary, though always at the Charterer’s discretion, to leave a gratuity in recognition of excellent service. As a guideline, a gratuity in the region of 10 to 15 per cent of the contracted gross Charter Fee is considered appropriate.

Destinations & Experiences in the Philippines

What are the most exclusive yacht charter destinations in the Philippines?

Palawan remains a leading destination for its dramatic limestone landscapes, tranquil coves, and unspoilt surroundings, particularly around El Nido and Coron. Cebu Province, an island province in the Philippines, comprises multiple islands, towns, and cities, making it a diverse and vibrant destination. The province features a variety of towns and cities along the coast, each offering unique attractions from the north to the south. The southern tip of Cebu is known for its scenic coastlines, adventure activities, and picturesque towns. Bantayan Island is the perfect getaway for travelers seeking white sand beaches and relaxation. The province is renowned for its white sand beaches, great facilities at hotels and resorts, and a wide range of leisure and adventure options.

The Calamian island group offers secluded anchorages and exceptional coral reefs. Further offshore, Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park, recognised by UNESCO, is one of the region’s most extraordinary marine environments, open to visitors only during a specific season each year. The Visayas offer a more gentle rhythm, with palm-fringed beaches, sandbars, and coastal villages that feel removed from the everyday.

Which iconic attractions should I explore during my Philippines yacht charter?

Bacuit Bay is known for its labyrinth of limestone islands and sheltered inlets. Coron’s inland lakes provide calm, clear swimming in remarkable natural surroundings. Apo Reef is celebrated for its extensive coral systems and diverse marine life.

Cebu City, recognised as the oldest city and capital of Cebu Province, features a vibrant city centre and serves as the region’s economic and political hub. The city boasts a rich history, shaped by the Spanish colonial era and significant events during World War II. Key heritage sites include Magellan’s Cross, the Basilica del Santo Niño, and the Casa Gorordo Museum, all of which play a vital role in the country’s cultural and religious history. The Sinulog Festival, held annually in honor of the Santo Niño, is one of Cebu City’s most important and colorful cultural events.

What bespoke experiences and activities can I enjoy while cruising in the Philippines?

The country is widely regarded as one of the finest diving and snorkelling destinations in the region, with coral gardens, reef walls, and abundant sea life. Kayaking through quiet channels, paddleboarding across shallow sandbanks, and using the yacht’s water equipment in calm bays are frequent highlights. On land, guided walks, nature excursions, and private beach settings can be prepared to create unhurried, memorable moments. Dining outdoors on a secluded shoreline is often particularly special, with the chef preparing dishes using local ingredients and flavours sourced that morning.

Where are the best restaurants and culinary experiences along the Philippines?

Chefs on board typically work with fresh seafood, island-grown vegetables, and regional citrus. Classic Filipino dishes can be interpreted with a lighter, contemporary touch: kinilaw (a delicate ceviche-style preparation with calamansi and coconut vinegar), grilled lapu-lapu seasoned simply and served with lime, blue crab with ginger, or young coconut salad with herbs from coastal gardens.

Private island retreats in Palawan and the Visayas also offer refined dining in peaceful surroundings, where menus change with availability rather than routine.
