Frequently Asked Questions

PLANNING YOUR CORSICA YACHT CHARTER

What is the best time of year for a luxury yacht charter in Corsica?

The ideal time to charter a yacht in Corsica is from late May to early October. July and August are considered the high season for yacht charters, offering the warmest and liveliest months, while June and September are particularly attractive for those who prefer the same beautiful weather with fewer crowds and a more serene atmosphere.

What is the weather like in Corsica during the prime charter season?

During the summer season, daytime temperatures usually range between 24°C and 30°C. The Mediterranean Sea is warm and generally very calm during the charter season, making it perfect for swimming and water sports. There can occasionally be Mistral winds in the northern part of the island, but an experienced captain will plan around this without issue.

Which airports provide the most convenient access to Corsica's premier yacht charter destinations?

Corsica is served by three main airports that are convenient for charter guests: Ajaccio on the west coast, Figari in the south, and Calvi in the north-west. Figari is especially practical for charters beginning in Bonifacio or Porto-Vecchio. All three airports handle private jets and provide VIP services.

VAT & Charter Costs

What is the applicable VAT rate for a luxury yacht charter in Corsica?

Corsica follows French VAT regulations, so the standard VAT rate for commercial yacht charters is 20 percent. Depending on the charter itinerary, there may be partial exemptions if a significant portion is spent outside French territorial waters.

What is the Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) and what does it cover?

The Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is a sum paid in advance to cover charter expenses that are not included in the charter fee. These may include fuel for the yacht, tenders and water sports equipment, food and beverages, berthing dues and harbour charges, local taxes, divers’ fees, customs formalities, waste disposal, water and electricity taken from shore, ships’ agents’ fees (where applicable), personal laundry, communications and internet use, and any special equipment requested by the Charterer. The Captain will provide detailed accounts of expenditure, and any balance will be settled at the end of your Corsica yacht charter.

What is the standard percentage for gratuities in yachting?

Gratuities are not included in the charter fee. It is customary, though always at the Charterer’s discretion, to leave a gratuity in recognition of excellent service. As a guideline, a gratuity in the region of 10 to 15 per cent of the contracted gross Charter Fee is considered appropriate.

Destinations & Experiences in Corsica

What are the most exclusive yacht charter destinations in Corsica?

The southern coastline is particularly prized, especially the area between Bonifacio and Porto-Vecchio. As the fourth largest island in the Mediterranean and one of the largest islands in the region, Corsica is considered both an ideal destination and a popular destination for yacht charters. Along this stretch, you will find beautiful bays, sandy beaches, and turquoise waters, making Corsica a beautiful island renowned for some of the most beautiful beaches and secluded coves in the Mediterranean. The nearby Lavezzi Islands and Cavallo Island offer a secluded, ultra-exclusive experience, and many yachts also include La Maddalena in Sardinia, as well as Costa Smeralda and Porto Cervo, as part of a seamless itinerary. Costa Smeralda and Porto Cervo are exclusive destinations known for their glamorous lifestyle, luxury resorts, and perfect anchorages. On the west coast, the Gulf of Porto and the Scandola Nature Reserve are spectacular and far less crowded; this area is also recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Each key port or anchorage along the route is an essential destination, enhancing the overall yacht charter experience.

Which iconic attractions should I explore during my Corsica yacht charter?

Bonifacio is a must-see, with its historic citadel perched dramatically on limestone cliffs overlooking the sea. The old town is a maze of narrow streets, full of medieval charm, and the historic old port adds to its allure for yachting visitors.

The Lavezzi Islands are idyllic nature reserves with crystal clear waters, perfect for snorkelling and relaxation. The red granite cliffs of the Calanques de Piana are also stunning, especially when approached by sea. For something inland, a guided visit to mountain villages like Corte or Sant’Antonino offers a different perspective on Corsican culture and scenery, surrounded by high mountains and rugged mountains that define the island’s dramatic landscape. Ajaccio, the scenic capital, is notable as the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte and features a charming old town to explore.

What bespoke experiences and activities can I enjoy while cruising in Corsica?

Guests typically enjoy private beach picnics on uninhabited islets, guided snorkelling or diving in protected marine zones, and scenic hikes to hidden waterfalls or panoramic vantage points. Many destinations are just a short sail apart, making it easy for the charter party to explore multiple locations and enjoy the relaxed yachting lifestyle. For those seeking an authentic yachting experience, a yacht charter offers the perfect way to discover Corsica and Sardinia’s picturesque coastlines.

Wine tastings at Corsican vineyards can be arranged, including by helicopter transfer if desired, and wellness sessions or tennis can be organised ashore, particularly on Cavallo Island. Culinary experiences are a highlight, with opportunities to sample local cheeses and fresh seafood at traditional restaurants or onboard. Guests can also enjoy people watching at seaside cafes and restaurants, soaking in the vibrant local atmosphere. Your broker’s specialist knowledge and international network ensure seamless arrangements and access to exclusive experiences.

Where are the best restaurants and culinary experiences along Corsica?

Corsica is known for its sophisticated yet characterful cuisine. Le Pirate in Erbalunga is particularly charming for seafood with views, while Domaine de Murtoli’s La Table de la Ferme offers refined dining on a private estate in an entirely natural setting. Cala di Greco near Bonifacio is praised for its sunset dining experience.
