Top Tips For Your Singapore Yacht Charter

Frequently Asked Questions

PLANNING YOUR SINGAPORE YACHT CHARTER

What is the best time of year for a luxury yacht charter in Singapore?

A luxury yacht charter in Singapore can take place throughout the year due to its consistently warm, tropical climate. The wet season brings increased rainfall, particularly during March, April, and September, while June tends to have calmer seas and lower wind speeds. Many guests prefer the period from February to August when the weather is typically drier and the sea conditions are calm, allowing for relaxed cruising between the Southern Islands and nearby cruising grounds.

What is the weather like in Singapore during the prime charter season?

Temperatures during the prime yacht charter season usually range from 26°C to 32°C, with gentle breezes and warm sea water well suited to swimming and time on deck. Brief tropical showers may appear, though they tend to pass quickly, followed by clear, bright skies. These conditions are ideal for leisurely coastal cruising and short island hops during your yacht charter in Singapore.

Which airports provide the most convenient access to Singapore's premier yacht charter destinations?

Changi Airport is the primary point of arrival for yacht charters and is exceptionally efficient for both commercial and private aviation. It is a short transfer to popular embarkation points such as One°15 Marina Sentosa Cove or Marina at Keppel Bay, both of which offer secure berthing and excellent facilities for yachts.

VAT & Charter Costs

What is the applicable VAT rate for a luxury yacht charter in Singapore?

Luxury yacht charters in Singapore are subject to Goods and Services Tax, currently set at 9%. Charter agreements are prepared with full cost clarity so that terms are understood in advance of embarkation.

What is the Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) and what does it cover?

The Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is a sum paid in advance to cover charter expenses that are not included in the charter fee. These may include fuel for the yacht, tenders and water sports equipment, food and beverages, berthing dues and harbour charges, local taxes, divers’ fees, customs formalities, waste disposal, water and electricity taken from shore, ships’ agents’ fees (where applicable), personal laundry, communications and internet use, and any special equipment requested by the Charterer. The Captain will provide detailed accounts of expenditure, and any balance will be settled at the end of your Singapore yacht charter.

What is the standard percentage for gratuities in yachting?

Gratuities are not included in the charter fee. It is customary, though always at the Charterer’s discretion, to leave a gratuity in recognition of excellent service. As a guideline, a gratuity in the region of 10 to 15 per cent of the contracted gross Charter Fee is considered appropriate.

Destinations & Experiences in Singapore

What are the most exclusive yacht charter destinations in Singapore?

A yacht charter in Singapore often begins close to the city, exploring the Southern Islands such as Lazarus Island and St John’s Island for quiet anchorages, swimming, and relaxed afternoons.

For longer journeys, yachts frequently sail towards the Anambas Islands and the Riau Archipelago, where the water is clear, the pace is gentle, and the surroundings feel entirely removed from the urban environment. The Riau Archipelago covers a vast area stretching to the south and east of Singapore, with islands extending into the South China Sea and reaching towards the north. Bintan, the largest island in the area, is a popular destination and is well connected to Singapore and other parts of Southeast Asia. This region is a gateway to the diverse maritime landscapes of Southeast Asia.

Which iconic attractions should I explore during my Singapore yacht charter?

Many yacht charter itineraries include time anchored off Sentosa, where the yacht offers views across the harbour and skyline. Visitors can discover the Southern Islands and enjoy private beach picnics, or incorporate ashore experiences arranged to suit personal interests. These experiences include the National Gallery, Gardens by the Bay, or the Botanic Gardens. After visiting these attractions, yacht charter guests are encouraged to discover the rich history and cultural diversity of Singapore, which is home to a vibrant mix of ethnic groups, languages, and religions.

There is also the opportunity to visit the Singapore River, a historic centre of trade and cultural exchange, and to explore districts influenced by Chinese and Malay heritage. English is widely spoken, making it easy for visitors from around the world to communicate and book experiences.

What bespoke experiences and activities can I enjoy while cruising in Singapore?

A yacht charter in Singapore offers opportunities for paddleboarding, gentle kayaking, swimming in sheltered bays, and relaxed dining on deck. For those seeking extended exploration, diving and snorkelling can be arranged in the Anambas or Riau islands, where coral reefs and quiet beaches provide a sense of escape. These areas present the opportunity for discovery and the chance to become immersed in the natural beauty and marine life. Some areas are dedicated to preserving threatened species, and there are different ways guests can enjoy these unique environments, whether through guided tours, wildlife observation, or eco-friendly activities. Wellness treatments, celebrations, and tailored gatherings can be curated on board to suit the occasion.

Where are the best restaurants and culinary experiences along Singapore?

While many yacht charter guests dine on board, Singapore offers several exceptional restaurants where the focus is on craft, discretion, and service. For French fine dining, Odette at the National Gallery and Les Amis off Orchard Road are both noted for precision, depth of flavour, and quiet elegance. For Japanese cuisine, Waku Ghin at Marina Bay Sands and Shinji by Kanesaka present highly considered seasonal menus with an intimate atmosphere suited to private conversation.

For contemporary tasting menus with personality and refinement, Restaurant Zén and Cloudstreet are thoughtful choices, each with a distinctive style and an emphasis on detail. For a setting that frames the city from above, JAAN offers refined dining with panoramic views, while Spago at the top of Marina Bay Sands is often chosen for relaxed, late-evening drinks in a polished environment.
