Indonesia yacht charter

The world’s largest archipelagic state, Indonesia boasts more than 17,000 islands and infinite possibilities for adventure. Drop anchor off Bali’s diverse coastline where remote stretches of sand in Nusa Dua fulfill escapist fantasies or hit the island’s party beaches for dusk-till-dawn revelry. Life moves at a more languid pace on the Gili Islands while Lombok’s beaches are a great spot to watch pro surfers ride the waves. Away from the water, Borobudur Temple in central Java instantly imbues visitors with a sense of serenity. The world’s largest Buddhist temple visit at sunrise to witness its historic silhouette framed by an orange-streaked sky.

The only place on earth where you can walk with dragons, a guided trek through Komodo National Park is a true bucket list item. Get up close to these ancient creatures, which are the world’s largest lizard – as well as orangutans – in their natural habitat. Alternatively, dive below the stunning waters of Wakatobi Marine National Park to swim with blacktip, whitetip, grey and hammerhead sharks.

More than half the world’s spices are found in Indonesia and centuries of East-West trade has infused the archipelago’s culinary repertoire with tantalising multicultural influences. Global flavours and ingredients inform traditional classics while staples like rice are celebrated in innumerable dishes. Fiery sambals are paired with freshly grilled seafood, fresh vegetables are transformed into gado-gado salad, and world-renowned dishes such as beef rendang and nasi goreng are national treasures. For modern Indonesian cuisine, bag a table at Ayung Terrace at the Four Seasons Ubud; go beach casual at Manarai Beach House in Nusa Dua; or feast on sophisticated flavours at Lombok’s Kemangi Bar & Kitchen in Kuta

Frequently Asked Questions

PLANNING YOUR INDONESIA YACHT CHARTER

What is the best time of year for a luxury yacht charter in Indonesia?

The ideal period for chartering in Indonesia is during the dry season, which runs from April to October. Indonesia’s tropical climate ensures warm temperatures and consistent weather throughout the year, creating ideal yachting conditions and supporting lush landscapes and vibrant biodiversity. During these months, the weather is generally calm and sunny, with excellent visibility for diving and snorkelling. The seas are smooth, and conditions are optimal for cruising between islands. The wet season, from November to March, brings heavier rainfall and less predictable weather, although certain areas, such as Raja Ampat, remain appealing year-round due to their unique equatorial climate.

What is the weather like in Indonesia during the prime charter season?

During the prime season, guests can expect warm tropical temperatures ranging between 27 and 32 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels are comfortable, and rainfall is minimal, particularly in the eastern regions such as Komodo and the Spice Islands. Trade winds provide steady breezes, creating pleasant cruising conditions and ensuring that the waters are clear for underwater exploration. The crystal-clear waters during this time make snorkeling and diving especially appealing, offering exceptional visibility and vibrant marine life.

Which airports provide the most convenient access to Indonesia?

For charters beginning in the eastern regions, Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar serves as the most convenient international gateway. From there, guests often take private flights to smaller airports such as Labuan Bajo for access to Komodo, or Sorong for charters in Raja Ampat. Jakarta’s Soekarno–Hatta International Airport is the primary international hub and offers connections throughout the archipelago. Private jet facilities are available at both Jakarta and Bali, ensuring seamless arrival and departure for yacht guests.

VAT & Charter Costs

What is the applicable VAT or tax rate for a luxury yacht charter in Indonesia?

At present, there is no fixed national value-added tax structure for yacht charters in Indonesia. Instead, costs are usually influenced by cruising permits, local port fees, and clearance formalities, which vary depending on the regions visited. Your charter broker will advise on the latest requirements and ensure that all clearances and official charges are arranged in advance of the voyage, handling every detail to provide transparency and a seamless experience.

What is the Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) and what does it cover?

The Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is a sum paid in advance to cover charter expenses that are not included in the charter fee. These may include fuel for the yacht, tenders and water sports equipment, food and beverages, berthing dues and harbour charges, local taxes, divers’ fees, customs formalities, waste disposal, water and electricity taken from shore, ships’ agents’ fees (where applicable), personal laundry, communications and internet use, and any special equipment requested by the Charterer. The Captain will provide detailed accounts of expenditure, and any balance will be settled at the end of your Indonesia yacht charter.

What is the standard percentage for gratuities in yachting?

Gratuities are not included in the charter fee. It is customary, though always at the Charterer’s discretion, to leave a gratuity in recognition of excellent service. As a guideline, a gratuity in the region of 10 to 15 per cent of the contracted gross Charter Fee is considered appropriate.

Destinations & Experiences in Indonesia

What are the most exclusive yacht charter destinations around Indonesia?

Indonesia offers some of the most extraordinary cruising grounds in the world, celebrated for the natural beauty of its island landscapes and pristine waters. Raja Ampat, a UNESCO-listed marine sanctuary, is renowned for its coral reefs and unparalleled biodiversity, making it one of the breathtaking destinations in the region. The Komodo National Park, a protected reserve, combines dramatic volcanic island landscapes with encounters with the world-famous Komodo dragons. The Spice Islands, steeped in history, provide a glimpse into Indonesia’s trading past, while the Banda Sea offers remote anchorages where few vessels venture. For those seeking complete seclusion, the Alor Archipelago and the unexplored isles of West Papua deliver an untouched sense of discovery.

The Indonesian archipelago is the world’s largest, offering an incredible diversity of island experiences and some of the most unique places on earth. With hundreds of Indonesian islands to explore, each journey reveals new stunning destinations and the timeless beauty that defines this remarkable region.

Which iconic attractions should I explore during my Indonesia yacht charter?

Highlights include the pink sand beaches of Komodo, the limestone karsts and lagoons of Misool in Raja Ampat, and the traditional villages of the Spice Islands. Divers will be captivated by manta ray cleaning stations, pristine coral walls, and underwater seamounts teeming with marine life, while snorkelling offers the chance to see vibrant reefs and even swim alongside majestic manta rays. These activities provide a true sense of adventure and the opportunity to explore Indonesia in a unique and memorable way. On land, guests may hike to volcanic craters, visit ancient forts and spice plantations, or encounter indigenous communities whose traditions remain unchanged for centuries, adding to the thrill of discovering new places and unforgettable adventures.

What bespoke experiences and activities can I enjoy while sailing in Indonesia?

Charters in Indonesia allow for entirely bespoke itineraries. Guests may choose to dive with world-class marine biologists, enjoy private beach banquets curated by Michelin-trained chefs, or explore remote islands by helicopter. Paddleboarding at sunrise through calm lagoons, night dives with bioluminescence, and wellness sessions such as yoga and spa treatments on deserted shores create a sense of true escapism. For those interested in cultural immersion, private performances by local dancers and musicians can be arranged in villages seldom visited by outsiders.

Where are the best restaurants and culinary experiences in Indonesia?

For the finest dining in Indonesia, Bali offers a selection of world-class restaurants that set the standard. In Ubud, Locavore and Mozaic are acclaimed for their inventive use of local ingredients, while Kubu at Mandapa offers an intimate riverside setting with refined European-inspired cuisine. On the coast, Kayuputi at The St. Regis Bali delivers Asian-influenced haute cuisine with exceptional wine pairings, CIRE at Alila Villas Uluwatu combines dramatic clifftop views with contemporary flavours, and Sundara in Jimbaran specialises in elegant seafood dining. Unique experiences include Room4Dessert’s avant-garde tasting menus, Seven Paintings Ubud’s immersive culinary theatre, and Koral at Apurva Kempinski, where guests dine surrounded by an aquarium. The ultimate exclusivity often lies aboard a private yacht, where chefs curate bespoke meals using market-fresh seafood and spices, served on secluded beaches or under the stars in regions such as Raja Ampat and the Banda Islands.
